- Pickup in Cairo 7:30AM at Cilantro Cafe -Mustafa Mahmoud Square
- Travel 360 kms Southwest to arrive in Baharya Oasis, tea and coffee stop at Oasis Restaurant
- Arrive in Al Haiz Oasis for Lunch and final packing. Transfer to 4×4 Landcruisers and start our Safari through the Black Desert, Aguabat Area, arriving at our camp in The White Desert.
- Set-up camp, enjoy nature surroundings at sunset; the unique rock formations will be glowing bright white. It is spectacular!

OVERVIEW:
EGYPT has quite a few ancient desert highways; most of them are unexplored. We tend to explore a lot of these desert trails. Recently, amazing efforts by few desert enthusiasts opened new trails in the Red Sea Trail (RST), and Sinai- the Sinai Trail (ST). I plan to open new trails in the Western Desert and this is the second undertaking; following a very successful trail we crossed in the area of North Fayoum.
The area we will cross is in areas that are less traveled and still has a lot of mysteries and amazing hidden landscapes. We will be hiking each day for 20-25km in the vast and magnificent region between the oases of Baharya and Farafara. This track will also include the picturesque and the unique White Desert.
The White Desert is one of its kind on earth; certainly a unique and magnificent area that lies in the heart of the Western Desert of Egypt. It is like being on a different planet with lunar landscape, amazing sunsets and spectacular night skies. This trip is designed to get a complete desert experience; silence, camels, unmatched landscapes, and traditional food. This is a journey through time and unique spaces where one can rejuvenate and self-reflect for a deeper self-understanding while enjoying a physically challenging experience which elevate the whole experience. This is a different desert and certainly a unique crossing of one of the most spectacular areas of the Sahara Desert.
Day 1
Sunday, 11th Feb

Meet in hotel and pickup… Head immediately to Baharyia Oasis- 400km from Cairo

Arrive at Al Haiz Oasis Eco-Lodge for lunch, and rest amid palm trees and water pools.

Regroup for final preparation and head to the desert towards Crystal Mountain Area. A fascinating region with tens of crystal hills lithering the desert floor.

Meet our camels and our camel attendants. After the introduction to the members of the camel caravan (attendants and guide) we will spend half an hour around the Crystal Mountain site after which we have a cup of tea and off we head deep into the desert of Aqabat.

Arrive at Base Camp1. Bedouin dinner and sleep in camp.
Day 2- Day 5
Monday, 12th Feb- Thursday 15th Feb
During those days our daily routine is as follows;

Prepare our hiking gear and load the camels

Begin the hike and continue hiking all day; only stopping when rest is needed or at interesting and important sites.
We will have a major stop at midday;
This is an important stop for the following reasons; first, to stay away from the heat of the day; second, for a decent fulfilling lunch, and thirdly, for rest.

Rest and lunch after which we will resume our hike.

Arrive at night camp and unload camels; set up camp, dinner will be cooked and then sleep

Friday, 16th Feb

Early rise as usual; hot drinks and breakfast.
Slowly we will dash our last 1okm towards the asphalt road where we will have reached our final stop under a lone palm tree for lunch.

We bid farewell to our camels, the beasts of burden, and to our crew.

Head back to the oasis for a hot natural spring for shower and refreshments. Diving into a mineral-rich natural hot spring is an amazing, particular of Egyptian Oases, experience not be missed.

Go to the Al-Haize Desert Eco Lodge for spending a splendid night amid palm trees and simple, clean and comfortable rooms.

READ CAREFULLY: Important information
- – Our itinerary will (roughly) be: Crystal Mountain- Aqabat- Ain El Sareo (Magic Spring)- Wady Hinnis- White Desert.
- – Each day we will be covering between 20-30km depending on our pace and the weather.
- – At least one night will be spent at the White Desert.
- – For safety; we will have a support vehicle accompanying us; which will not be seen or felt throughout hiking time;however, we will meet our crew twice a day- once at lunch and another time at night camp.
- – Luggage will be safely kept inside the vehicle, while you will only carry your light backpack with snacks and a bottleof water for the 3-4hrs hike.
- – Extra water and provisions will be carried by our camels.
- – Every 2 to 3 wanderers of the desert will share a camel. The camels will be fit to carry any tired individuals; however,for an optimum experience of a nomadic Bedouin, we advise to not ride the camel at ALL times.
- – Those individuals who feel tired or not want to hike may ride in the 4×4 support vehicle with our crew, however,they will not be driven around the desert at leisure; on the contrary, they will just accompany our crew who will be performing their own duties.

Water Mountain Expedition 17th Feb- 25th Feb, 2024 (9 Days)
Overview:
Deep in the heart of the Western Desert of Egypt there is a ‘stone temple’ dating thousands of years old. The site was recently discovered in 2001 by the German explorer Carlo Bergmann. Carlo explored the desert relying entirely on his physical stamina and on the ‘ships of the desert’, the camel, Carlo followed ancient trails based on the writings of historians and geographers. The discovery of the Mountain was the highlight of the German explorer’s desert research work and it had provided massive new information on Ancient Egyptian existential projects and travels in the Libyan Desert; thus, this is one of the most important sites in the Western Desert of Egypt.
This expedition is unique and exceptional at this time for many reasons including; first, the area had been off-limits for the last 10 years and we have been granted a permission to access; second, the entire area is full of prehistoric rock art that has not been properly surveyed and new sites can actually found; third, we have time to invest in the area in search of and documenting the known sites; finally, you are to join two of the most experienced desert guides, and organizers in Egypt, Mahmoud Marai and Abdu Shaban.
The expedition will start from Al-Haiz, the southernmost village of the Baharyia Oasis, in well-equipped, and well-maintained Land Cruisers. The vehicles and crew will have our provisions and supplies loaded and we will be ready to begin our desert expedition. First, we will head towards one of the oldest caves with paintings and hand prints, Obayied Cave. Following visiting this site, we will advance into the formidable dunes of the Great Sea of Sand; a land mass the size of England with only sand dunes. Finally we will arrive at the foot of the Djedefra Water Mountain to camp for two nights to marvel at the site and explore nearby areas. The last day will take us to Dakhla Oasis where we will dive into a hot natural spring and a traditional Bedouin dinner.

Day 1
Saturday 17th Feb
Meet in Cairo and drive to Baharyia Oasis in a private, comfortable shuttle bus.
Timing and arrangements will be organized once we know when our guests/participants will arrive. Arriving to Al-Haize Eco Lodge for welcome drinks, orientation and check-in.
Bedouin BBQ dinner and union with the entire group and crew.
Day 2

Drive to Obayied Cave. Depending on our timing and progress we will plan what else can be done during this first day. However, lunch, and dinner will be served by our crew in camp in the desert.
Day 3- Day 7
Monday 19th Feb- Friday 23th Feb
Our daily routine will be waking up by first sunlight; a bonfire is lit for a warm reunion; hot drinks and refreshments served as our crew prepare for us breakfast. You will begin to pack all your belongings at this time and by the time breakfast is ready, all your materials, luggage and camping gear should be delivered at the cars. As you are having breakfast our crew will start loading the vehicles and dismantling camp.
We should start our daily drive by around 9.30AM to have plenty of time to cover ground and explore. We will be stopping whenever we have an interest in a place or to look for something new. At midday, we will stop to rest and have lunch. Following food and a good cup of strong traditional Bedouin tea, we will resume our course.
Each day we will sleep in a different location, and we will set camp prior to sunset to enjoy the last moments of the sun as it sets in the western horizon. A typical day will look like this

Day 5 we will visit the ancient Islamic Village Al Qasr, Pharaonic Temple of Al Hagar, take a picnic lunch outside, returning to Sosal house for 2nd night.
Day 6 we leave for Kharga Oasis: the largest of all Egypt’s Western Oases, stopping for lunch and to visit the ancient Roman fort, Qasr el Baramoudy and the Temple of Hibis. The drive continues west, arriving in Luxor by dinner time.

Weekend in Western Desert: 2023 Season – Djara Cave, White Desert, Caraween Dunes, Crystal Mountain, Aguabat Valley, Ain Khadra & Ain Seuf (Magic Spring)
Join us for 3 nights, 4 days out of Cairo for our program in the Western Desert of Egypt.
Day 1: Pick-up in Cairo 7:30AM, 4.5 hour drive just past Baharya Oasis to our land in Al Haiz. Here we will take lunch and finish loading the cars. 2Pm we leave for our adventure off road starting in Crystal mountain. Fro here we make 3 decent into the Aguabat Valley, making stops for pictures along the way. By sunset we will arrive at our campsite in the south end of Aguabat area.
Set-up camp and have a BBQ dinner, campfire and hot tea under the starry night.
Day 2: 7AM wake-up to hot coffee, start to pack up camp while the crew prepare a hot breakfast including fresh made Bedouin bread & fresh fruits.
10AM we start our journey through the gorgeous Caraween Dunes south to Djara Cave, the largest of its kind in Egypt. After a short time on the asphalt, a quick rest stop to re-fuel, grab snacks or use the restroom, we will arrive at the cave by lunch time.
As you tour the cave, our crew will prepare a hot lunch outside the cave, where we will eat, have hot tea/coffee before we continue on by 2PM.
After a short time on the asphalt, we will head off-road again, passing through a very unique area of ‘watermelon stones’. Our journey continues north west through Caraween dunes, for an afternoon of riding the dunes, sand boarding, until we find the perfect spot to set-up camp for the night.
Day 3: 7AM sunrise in the dunes, with the long shadows and picturesque landscapes, we will pack up camp, have a hot breakfast. Continuing to head northwest through the dunes, we will arrive at the southend of the White desert by 11AM. We will spend the next few hours discovering the large wind-swept rock formations, stoping to walk and take pictures.
As we leave the White Desert, we will be on the asphalt for a short while until we arrive in Aguabat Valley, we will find a nice lunch spot in this area.
After lunch we will pack up and head back to Al Haiz Oasis Ecolodge. We will unpack while everyone settles into their rooms for a swim, shower and a restful sunset until dinner is served at 9PM.
Day 4: Good morning! Last breakfast with us at 9AM, enjoy the fresh spring pool, the animals on the farm, or relax in the sunshine until the mini-bus picks up by 2PM. Arriving in Cairo by 7PM.

Load the 4x4s to head out to the desert for an overnight camp.

Arrive at camp in the White Desert; Campsite is set and dinner is served by the campfire. 10:00PM
(OPTIONAL) 1hour hike amid the White Icebergs of the White Desert. The White Desert landscape and structures is so unique and one of its kind in the world; it I also spectacular during a full-moon because the white chalk formations reflect the moonlight like no other type of rock; transforming the entire landscape into a unique and phenomenal experience.
DAY 2: 7:00AM Wakeup call. Refreshments of coffee and tea are being served as breakfast is being prepared.

Load the 4x4s and head to ‘Ain Sareo’ or the ‘Magic Spring’ where we will hide under the shades of its palm trees and enjoy the cool waters.
Then head to Agabat Valley from the desert; the airport area (an amazingly flat stretch of sand surrounded by huge and high plateau-like cliffs, and finally end our desert tour Crystal Mountain.
Lunch is served mid-day and several pit-stops with refreshments, tea and fruits.
Head back to Al Haiz Ecolodge for cleanup and ride back to Cairo

Day 1:
7AM – Pick-up from meeting point in Cairo, and drive to Baharya Oasis.
11AM – Meet our crew and 4×4’s at the point pf departure to the desert.
12:30PM – Stop for an amazing group lunch courtesy of our Bedouin chef
2:30PM – Resume our course into the desert to watch amazing landscapes and stop at a number of sites.

Day 2:

Djara Cave & White Desert
Day 1: 7:30AM pickup from Cairo, leaving at 8AM. Take transportation 360kms south Baharya Oasis. Take a rest stop and lunch in Oasis Restaurant. Move to 4×4 Landcruisers, visit local hot springs (over 400 here!) head south for a tour of Black Desert, Crystal Mountain, and Aquabat area. We will arrive at our camp in White Desert at sunset. Set up camp.
Settle into tents then enjoy a traditional Bedouin dinner and party with flute and sensemia, dancing and a campfire under the stars. We will learn about the Bedouin way of life, and traveling in the desert, sharing valuable knowledge. We will have our dinner around the fire and enjoy the camp and surroundings.
Day 2: 6AM sunrise, early birds will enjoy this serene landscape at dawn! 7AM Breakfast & hot coffee. After packing up camp, we will cross the desert to New White desert, and onto Caraween Dunes, stop for sandboarding, on the way to Djara cave. After spending the afternoon discovering the Cave, we will head south to Al Haiz Oasis Lodge. Settle into tents (rooms available for an additional 400le) then enjoy a traditional BBQ dinner, campfire, and astronomy under the incredible night sky.
Day 3: 6AM sunrise and hot coffee, breakfast at 8:30AM. Take a swim in our fresh spring pool, and take a tour of the animals on the farm, spending there morning here. Then head toward Baharya around 1PM. Arriving in the Oasis, we will have a rest stop and optionally have lunch in Oasis Restaurant Baharya (on Facebook for menu and details), and browse the Date & Oil Market.
