Eid Safari in Western Desert – March 31st – April 4th, 2025
Join us for 4 nights, 5 days out of Cairo for our newest program in the Western Desert of Egypt.
Day 1: Pick-up in Cairo 2PM, 4.5 hour drive just past Baharya Oasis to our land in Al Haiz. After dinner you will settle in rooms.
Day 2: 7AM wake-up to hot coffee, fruit and biscuits while the crew prepare breakfast and the cars. We will take a quick tour of the local village and visit a hot spring, returning to Al Haiz for breakfast. Final packing of luggage into the 4×4’s.
11AM we start our journey off-road in the Black Desert, Village of Rees and the local hot spring, ancient Roman Winery. Heading north through Black Desert, up the escarpment towards the gorgeous El Gerrenat mountainous area for lunch. We will pack up lunch and continue towards Abu Muharrik sand dunes (Father of Dunes) with several points of interest along the way and photo and discovery stops until we find our camp spot for the night.

Day 3: 7AM sunrise in the dunes, with the long shadows and picturesque landscapes, we will pack up camp, and have a hot breakfast. Continuing to head southwest through the dunes, to Djara Cave; the largest of its kind in Egypt, this underground cave is approximately 20 meters down soft sand to arrive at a massive cavern full of stalactites, stalagmites and petroglyphs.
As you tour the cave, our crew will prepare a hot lunch outside the cave, where we will eat, have hot tea/coffee before we continue on.
After a short time on the asphalt, a quick rest stop to re-fuel, grab snacks or use the restroom.
We will head off-road again, passing through a very unique area of ‘watermelon stones’. Our journey continues north west through Caraween dunes, for an afternoon of riding the dunes, sand boarding, until we find the perfect spot to set-up camp for the night.

Day 4: 7AM sunrise in the dunes, time for a walk up the dunes for pictures or sand boarding, while we pack up camp, and have a hot breakfast. Once camp is down and packed up, we will arrive at the southend of the White desert. We will spend the next few hours discovering the large wind-swept rock formations, stoping to walk and take pictures.
As we leave the White Desert, we will be on the asphalt for a short while until we hit Aguabat Valley where we will find a nice lunch spot in this area. Final stop is Crystal Mountain, a massive Quartz crystal area for discovery.
We will head back to Al Haiz Oasis Ecolodge, unpack while everyone settles into their rooms for a hot shower and a restful time until dinner is served, followed by a Bedouin party!
Day 5: Good morning! Last breakfast with us at 10AM, enjoy the fresh spring pool, the animals on the farm, or relax in the sunshine. We will be back in the 4×4;s to head north for a tour of Baharyia Oasis.
We will visit important points of interest including: English Mountain, Pyramid Mountain, Golden Mummies museum (from the pharaonic time period), tour through the massive Date Palm groves of the Oasis and arrive at the Salt Lake for lunch, until the mini-bus picks up by 5PM. Arriving in Cairo by 10PM.
Safari Includes:Transportation from Cairo return, 4×4 cars, English speaking guides, Bedouin chef, room for 2 nights in Al Haiz Oasis Ecolodge. 3 meals a day: including hot beverages, water, juice and snacks. Itinerary for 8 nights Cairo to Aswan -through Alexandria, Siwa, White Desert and Dakhla Oasis
Day 1:
• Pickup AM from airport, visit Pyramids of Giza, spend a few hours there. Take lunch before heading west along the North Coast.
• Arrive in Alexandria check into hotel, dinner out in the city. Visit the castle and waterfront at night.
Day 2:
• Breakfast then early start to Siwa, Possible stop in Ageeba Beach for picnic lunch if time permits.
• Arrive to Siwa at around 4 PM. Visit Al Mawta Mountain, then Fatnas Lake for sunset. Dinner, hotel.
Day 3:
• Early breakfast for full day in Siwa. Visiting Salt pools 1st for a swim and amazing pictures! Then Temple Umm Abayda, Cleopatra Spring fresh water spring and swim, lunch there.
• Head to Great Sand Sea desert in 4×4 to see Bir Wahad (requires permission) relax in the palm trees, swim, tea and snacks. Ending up at Siwa Salt lake for sunset. Return to village for market shopping, dinner then hotel.
Day 4:
• Early breakfast and full day driving to Baharya Oasis with lunch stop along the way. Arrive at Al Haiz Ecolodge for checkin.
• Move to 4×4 and visit Roman Winery and sunset tea in the dunes. Return to Lodge for dinner and settle into rooms.
Day 5:
• Leisurely wakeup, breakfast, small tour of Tabl Amon, swim in warm spring of Bir Sherif. Return to Lodge, pack up from room and light lunch. Move to 4×4 and start Safari of Western Desert.
• Visiting points of interest with many stops for pictures and discovery. Black Desert, Crystal Mountain, Aguabat Valley, White Desert.
• Find camping stop and set camp. Bedouin dinner of roast duck under the sand. Evening under the stars with Bedouin tea and music.
Day 6:
• Leisurely wakeup, breakfast, breakdown camp and head to Magic Spring for a fresh water wash.
• Move south to Djara Cave; discover an underground cave full of stalagtites, stalagmites and petroglyphs while chef prepares lunch.
• Move to Caraween dunes for sandboarding and dune ride adventure. Set up camp in the dunes. Relax for sunset, dinner under the stars.
Day 7:
• Sunrise in dunes, break down camp and breakfast. Move to highway to meet sedan car for 10 AM and move southwest to Dakhla Oasis.
• Lunch, visit Deir Hagar pharaonic temple and Mezzawakka tombs.
• Move to Salt Lake in dunes, tea and sunset.
• Arrive at guesthouse Sosal House (beautiful traditional Bedouin house) dinner served in house. Relaxing evening
Day 8:
• Full day in Dakhla Oasis visiting ancient village of Al Qasr and if you missed one of the sites from the day before you will have time today. Dinner in Bedouin restaurant and back to Sosal House for the night.
Day 9:
• Breakfast brought to house and pack a picnic lunch for your big travel day to Aswan, arriving around 7 PM

EGYPT has quite a few ancient desert highways; most of them are unexplored. We tend to explore a lot of these desert trails. Recently, amazing efforts by few desert enthusiasts opened new trails in the Red Sea Trail (RST), and Sinai- the Sinai Trail (ST). I plan to open new trails in the Western Desert and this is the second undertaking; following a very successful trail we crossed in the area of North Fayoum.
The area we will cross is in areas that are less traveled and still has a lot of mysteries and amazing hidden landscapes. We will be hiking each day for 20-25km in the vast and magnificent region between the oases of Baharya and Farafara. This track will also include the picturesque and the unique White Desert.
The White Desert is one of its kind on earth; certainly a unique and magnificent area that lies in the heart of the Western Desert of Egypt. It is like being on a different planet with lunar landscape, amazing sunsets and spectacular night skies. This trip is designed to get a complete desert experience; silence, camels, unmatched landscapes, and traditional food. This is a journey through time and unique spaces where one can rejuvenate and self-reflect for a deeper self-understanding while enjoying a physically challenging experience which elevate the whole experience. This is a different desert and certainly a unique crossing of one of the most spectacular areas of the Sahara Desert.

Meet in hotel and pickup… Head immediately to Baharyia Oasis- 400km from Cairo

Arrive at Al Haiz Oasis Eco-Lodge for lunch, and rest amid palm trees and water pools.

Regroup for final preparation and head to the desert towards Crystal Mountain Area. A fascinating region with tens of crystal hills lithering the desert floor.

Meet our camels and our camel attendants. After the introduction to the members of the camel caravan (attendants and guide) we will spend half an hour around the Crystal Mountain site after which we have a cup of tea and off we head deep into the desert of Aqabat.

Day 2- Day 5
Monday, 12th Feb- Thursday 15th Feb
During those days our daily routine is as follows;

Prepare our hiking gear and load the camels

Begin the hike and continue hiking all day; only stopping when rest is needed or at interesting and important sites.
We will have a major stop at midday;
This is an important stop for the following reasons; first, to stay away from the heat of the day; second, for a decent fulfilling lunch, and thirdly, for rest.

Rest and lunch after which we will resume our hike.

Arrive at night camp and unload camels; set up camp, dinner will be cooked and then sleep

Friday, 16th Feb

Early rise as usual; hot drinks and breakfast.
Slowly we will dash our last 1okm towards the asphalt road where we will have reached our final stop under a lone palm tree for lunch.

We bid farewell to our camels, the beasts of burden, and to our crew.

Head back to the oasis for a hot natural spring for shower and refreshments. Diving into a mineral-rich natural hot spring is an amazing, particular of Egyptian Oases, experience not be missed.

READ CAREFULLY: Important information
– Our itinerary will (roughly) be: Crystal Mountain- Aqabat- Ain El Sareo (Magic Spring)- Wady Hinnis- White Desert.
– Each day we will be covering between 20-30km depending on our pace and the weather.
– At least one night will be spent at the White Desert.
– For safety; we will have a support vehicle accompanying us; which will not be seen or felt throughout hiking time;however, we will meet our crew twice a day- once at lunch and another time at night camp.
– Luggage will be safely kept inside the vehicle, while you will only carry your light backpack with snacks and a bottleof water for the 3-4hrs hike.
– Extra water and provisions will be carried by our camels.
– Every 2 to 3 wanderers of the desert will share a camel. The camels will be fit to carry any tired individuals; however,for an optimum experience of a nomadic Bedouin, we advise to not ride the camel at ALL times.
– Those individuals who feel tired or not want to hike may ride in the 4×4 support vehicle with our crew, however,they will not be driven around the desert at leisure; on the contrary, they will just accompany our crew who will be performing their own duties.

Full detailed program:
– Pickup in Cairo 8:00AM at Cilantro Cafe -Mustafa Mahmoud Square (airport or custom pick-up add $35)
– Travel 360 kms Southwest to arrive in Baharya Oasis, lunch at Al Haiz Oasis
– After lunch we will transfer to 4×4 Land-cruisers for an off road tour of Black Desert & Aquabat Area
– Enter New White Desert, stop for pictures in a few choice places. Arrive to the camp.
– Set-up camp, enjoy nature surroundings at sunset. It’s a New Moon, the sky will be spectacular!
– Settle in for a Traditional Bedouin meal, fireside evening, music, stargazing and storytelling.
– Day 2: 7AM sunrise in the incredible White Desert, enjoy hot coffee, a full Bedouin breakfast with fresh bread & fresh fruit
After breakfast we will pack up camp and start a tour of Old White Desert, visit ancient Acacia Tree & Crystal Mountain
-Move to Al Haiz Oasis Lodge for lunch, tea, warm dates & olive oil. After lunch enjoy a swim in our Natural spring (don’t forget to bring bathing suit & towel)
– Settle into rooms and enjoy activities in Bedouin tent for the evening
– Day 3: Leave for Baharya Oasis 3PM, shop dates & oil market before leaving back to Cairo, arriving at pickup destination around 8PM
